About

Hello! We are Kingston Hospital Radio, situated in Kingston Hospital.

We are an Radio Station that broadcasts to the patients, doctors and nurses in the Hospital as well as on the internet. Being in hospital can be a bit bewildering and sometimes lonely, so we at Kingston Hospital Radio sincerely hope that we can help to make your stay a more positive and uplifting experience.

Kingston Hospital Radio first took to the airwaves back in 1957. In those days it was a simpler affair, with a couple of record decks and a microphone, but as technology has progressed we have gone through the CD era and the station is now run using the very latest Myriad computer play out system. As a result, we offer a very professional sounding radio station. More to the point, it is your radio station – aimed at playing songs for you.

Our dedicated team of volunteer presenters and request collectors, give up their time to offer a wide variety of programmes throughout the week; including classical, jazz. country & folk shows, plus those featuring more mainstream pop music, playing songs from the 1950s through to today’s chart hits. We also have request shows, where you get to choose the music. So there is something for everyone, whatever your taste!

As mentioned previously, our team are all volunteers, but there are obvious running costs to consider with any such radio station – keeping equipment maintained and updating our music library. We also need some extensive repair work carried out very shortly in order to keep the station running and providing this service to our listeners. Our members are doing their utmost to try to raise this money by doing various things, including outside broadcasts at school fetes in the summer (If you are interested in us being at your event, please contact us for details). If you would like to enquire about making a donation, however big or small, please get in touch, and help to keep us on air.

Research has shown that listening to music greatly benefits anyone who is feeling unwell, so we hope that we can help on that score and keep on doing it for many years to come.

Please take the time to tune in to us on your smartphones, tablets or computers, by clicking our Listen Live feature. Also, feel free to get in touch with us (click contact us). If you have never had a song played for you on the radio before, you can change it. It’s your station, so please tell us what you want to hear. Don’t be shy!
